Sprawled over an area of about 25 hectares, the Wellington Botanic Garden sits near central Wellington, on the side of the hill, between the lands of Thorndon and Kelburn. The garden mostly consists of native protected forests with exception of conifers and other plant collections etc. It is interesting to know that Wellington Cable Car passes through it- from Lambton Quay to the top of the Botanic Garden! Which also makes it the best route to reach Wellington’s City center.
The beautiful winding hilly paths top the Botanic Garden’s highlights. These paths are both popular with the resident’s as well as the visitors, and why not- they offers a lot of activities- you can jog or just enjoy a leisurely walk through the zigzag route which would prove a great way to explore the Garden’s many collections.
The Botanic Garden also features a complete surprise- the Victorian-style glasshouse known as the Begonia House; other highlights include names like the Lady Norwood Rose Garden, a duck pond, the Treehouse Visitor Centre and a big children’ play area. Note that there are usually monthly tours during autumn-spring.
