Victoria Esplanade – Palmerston North’s Premier Park

The Victoria Esplanade Gardens, located just next to the Manawatu River, is comprised of a magnificent 19 hectares of stunning gardens, bird aviaries, natural walking trails, massive duck ponds, free barbecue facilities, dedicated playground and paddling areas for children. So whether you are bringing your kids here or your parents, either of them won’t have any shortage of things to do at the esplanade.

History Highlights

The development of the Esplanade gardens started way back in 1897, and the same was renamed as “Victoria Esplanade Gardens” in order to acknowledge the Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The gardens include a wide range of both the annual and perennial parks, with an aim to offer a year-round display to the visitors.

Things to Do

In addition to the versatile range of gardens, the park also includes facilities for cricket, rugby, hockey and a small rustic cafe, offering its visitors a wide range of appetizers, followed by full meals.

A prominent part of the Victoria Esplanade Gardens is the Dugald McKenzie Rose Garden; this park serves as a home to more than 5000 varieties of flora and also embodies the International Rose trial Grounds. Besides all this, visitors here can also enjoy a small miniature railway ride for minimal charges.
