Requirements for renting a car in Queenstown

To successfully rent a car in Queenstown, you must be at least 21 years old and if you are under 25, be prepared to pay an extra fee labeled as young driver surcharge – it is charged by every supplier. In addition to age eligibility, you will also need to show a valid driver’s license (DL), a credit card, and an identity proof. You can use your native driver license to drive in NZ, however, if your DL is not in Roman alphabet make sure that you have your international driver’s permit (IDP). In case the suppliers ask for the IDP as the mandatory document in the T&Cs and rental voucher, do bring it along as, without it, you will not be allowed to pick the car; same applied if you are found underage, so provide the correct age at the time of booking.
