Tirohanga Track is a popular track in Picton and is counted among one of the 12 most loved hikes in the city. The best thing about the track is that it leads to a hilltop lookout that provides amazing views of the city, this is the reason that people visiting Picton can be seen doing the hike in the early mornings and evenings. It is an integral part of the city’s main attraction list.
Though steep, it is a rather short hike, not at all difficult track and is considered safe for all levels of hikers. The track can be started from two points; one entry point is at the Newgate Street while the other is at Garden Terrace. In case of Garden Terrace, there are many walkways that go up to Essons Valley where you can observe the two dams that are the main source of water supply in the city. Interestingly, you can cover all this in a single go.
The length of the track from the starting points to the hilltop viewpoint is approximately 1.2 km and on the way, the trail passes through native woods. This hike can be completed in 45 minutes time and if you are good at it and have been a healthy hiker for quite some time, you might be able to complete the hike in half that time.
